Oklahoma... where the winds...

So today felt much like home. Our book said that it was 26 kilometers of flat featureless land. The author wasn´t kidding. It was just like home. There was NOTHING, I am talking Panhandle, for 17 kilometers. However, we were able to walk 8 kilometers in an hour and a half which is a new record. Yea for us!!!

We ended up taking a bus from Burgos to Carrion last night. We spent the day in Burgos which was nice. We got to see a festival at the Cathedral which was really great!! Then we sat under a tree in the shade by the river. It was quite nice. The bus ride was incredibly short considering that it would have taken us three days to walk the same distance. This can be frustrating at times because even the pilgrims on bike are so much faster. Not just faster in the sense of beating us, but they go so fast.

Today was difficult for us because it was HOT and there were few water sources. Walking so far with nothing in between is taxing on the mind. We have been playing games along the way to pass the time. We have gone through the ABCs at least four times naming movies and actors. Today we named actors and actresses and the other person had to name someone with whom they had acted with. I am terrible at this game so Toni had to come up with most of my people. Talking helps the time go by faster. Though some days we hardly talk at all, it is still nice to have someone near by.

Challenge: if you haven´t already at least contemplated the first three, do so. Either take a nap under a tree, walk without your iPod, or do something you never dreamed you could do.

If you don´t already know, Spain won the Euro 2008 last night. This made for an interesting evening in the country. Much cheering and paryting was done. WE even heard someone next to us in the hotel this morning throwing up.

Blisters are better and muscles are too. Today our muscles are sore, but nothing that a little ibupofren won´t fix. I can´t even tell you how much of this we have taken.

Love you all,

Toni and Mel

Have you guys done ABC's with restaurants yet? That's a fun one. I have been watching some great Wimbledon matches and wish I could call you to talk about them. I'm guessing it's going to be an all Williams final. Maybe you should do ABC's with tennis players.

I am headed to Little Rock this week while Canaan goes to Colorado. As you can imagine, my mom is very excited. Christmas in July is on hold until August, so the 4th will be a little different this year.

I continue to be inspired and impressed by you two. I am trying to think of what I should do that I didn't think I could, and I'll let you know what I come up with. I love you and hope to hear from you again soon!

I'm so glad you took the bus during the boring part of the trip. I looked at the pictures and agree that you would have thought they were from Western Oklahoma. Burgos looked neat so I hope you were able to see some of the sights that were on the website. I cleaned my kitchen cabinets today, and even though I didn't have to walk too far, my feet are really tired. Does that count. I wanted to quit several times but didn't. Surely that counts. I took my final in Advanced Psychology today and start my two new classes in Ada tomorrow. The first one is at 7:30 so I really should get to bed.
Things are good here; my classroom is turned upside down, but the walls are freshly painted and the floors are waxed, so now it is all up to me to get everything done. I really wish I hadn't emptied all my cabinets. I plan to do a clean sweep as I put everything back in place. I never use some of that stuff. It was good to talk to you yesterday; take care and stay safe

You could do ABC's with Bible Characters. Glad to see you are both doing well. You will both be so buff when you get home we won't recognize you. Grace and I went to McDonalds and then bought out Target today while mom took Adison to the doctor for 1 year shots. Stay safe.

I have been trying to think of something to challenge myself with and honestly I think motherhood is challenging enough. Especially when they've been sick. I would like to run the airport track again but haven't managed to get out there. I know the last time I did I felt invincible. There's something about pushing yourself mentally or physically that is so rewarding. I really miss school. I would go back in a heart beat. College was a constant challenge. Love you guys!
By the way this is Stef blogging not Daniel. I guess you figured that out by the motherhood comment.

Do you realize that any other hikes you do for the rest of your lives will seem so easy after this? Okay, unless you do the Appalachian Trail or something. When you finally make it to Tincup with us those trails will seem so short. Steep but short. Have I told you how proud I am of you both? I am. My challenge has been trying to come up with a challenge. I guess the idea is to try to always stretch yourself in some way.

Tim and I just celebrated our 6th anniversary and Tim will be on vacation next week. We want to go to Tincup but don't want to drive with Emma that far. Maybe you all can go with us next year. As always it is great to hear your voice and I look forward to it again soon.

Thinking of you...

As I pack our 28 foot trailer and Suburban with all the stuff and junk we NEED to survive for a 4-day camping trip in Glenwood Springs I have thought of you two many times, carrying most of what you need with you at all times. I have also thought of you often Toni, remembering that our trip to GS for Nancy's wedding was my first trip to CO and the occasion where I first fell in love with the state and determined to someday make it my home...

God bless you both and grant you strength and peace to complete this amazing journey. I can not wait to see you again!

Love, Christy

Okay, so yesterday evening Tim said, "Let's go to Colorado Saturday." I was like, "Whaaat??" Today I said, "Okay!!" Looks like we are going to Tincup after all for a few days. We will probably leave tomorrow though. So we will be out of pocket for a few days. I feel happy and excited. We are going to teach Emma how to fish! LOL This may be the challenge that I have to push through... a road trip with a baby! Seriously, I am looking forward to that special closeness to God you always seem to feel up in the mountains. Love to you both and I'll really be looking forward to getting your updates when we return as there will be no internet. Take care and remember: "Il faut profiter!"
