We have had quite an adventure so far. We successfully changed hotels last night and it was surprisingly quite easy. Today we are just hanging out and resting a bit: We slept late and are about to head to St. Chappelle. From there we will most likely hang out in the historic part of Paris (near Notre Dame). We hope to have the perfect scenery to write our postcards.
As for the schedule of events: we are taking a night train to St. Jean tonight. We leave Paris at 11 PM. we should arrive in Biarritz some time in the morning. Then we have to wait there for six hours for an hour and a half train ride. We are considering trying to share a taxi with another pilgrim. If the taxi ride and all other timing issues work out, we could potentially begin our walk tomorrow/
I dont know about Toni, but I am excited about sleeping on an overnight train. It will at leqst be another adventure.
Paris has been cold and rainy the last two days: Our rain jackets have come in auite handy. We still have not seen Versailles because of some strike. We dont know why, just that we wll have to try to catch it when we come back next month.
Things we have loved in Paris:
the people - despite what many Americans think, they have been wonderful and VERY helpful
the weather - it is not humid - despite the rain
the food - we have decided that butter on a sandwich is way better than mayonnaise
the sites - pictures cannot capture the breathtaking view from the top of the Eiffel tower, Notre Dame or the Arc - by the way, we climbed them all - well rode an elevator at the Eiffel tower, but climbed EVERY single step to the very top of Notre Dame - we were face to face with so,e of the most famous gargoyles in the world -
a new appreciation for art - for me any way - I have always liked it, but not I have a whole new respect for it - Jenn Cox - I even sketched something for you - Toni has always liked art
the pace - since we couldnt get a train when we wanted, we have had the opportunity to slow down and really enjoy the sites - I think we spent over an hour inside of Notre Dame before we even stqrted the LONG climb to the top - we find this pace fitting at this time because we are slowing down right before we start wqlking where we will really slow down
Things we have learned:
No plan is set - be flexible - we all ready knew this but are being reminded
When everyone is running in the metro, run with them - running indicates that the train is about to leave - run or miss it
Pigeons love bread and will take it from you if you let them
Gas prices in America are nothing - one litre here is 16 euros - about 20 American dollqrs
we dont have to eat three meals a day - we have been fine on two
We have had a great time and are looking forward to having one more day here today and another next month.
We are not sure when we zill be able to post next. We should start walking Monday.
