Holy Moly!!!!

We made it and I mean we made it. We left our albergue at 5:30 this morning and arrived after walking 20 kilometers at 10:30. Yep, we walked 20 kilometers in 5 hours. That is a NEW record for us. We finished right before the French couple that has been so helpful from day one. They asked us to wait for them to walk to the cathedral. They are wonderful!!!

The feeling of having finished walking 495 miles (minus a couple of bus rides) is quite unexplainable. I was on the verge of tears 8 kilometers out. To think that we were able to conquer such a huge task is surreal. I know I wanted to quit several times because of blisters, fatigue, sore muscles and feet, and once just tired of walking everyday. However, we were able to make it all the way and have seen changes in ourselves along the way.

We are going to Fisterra tomorrow. This place was once thought to be the end of the flat world. We are taking a bus and several pilgrims that we have met are as well. Then we will come back and meet our American friend Kitsie for dinner as she is coming into Santiago tomorrow. We will continue to keep you updated on our whereabouts and adventure.

By the way, our ¨bum¨friend Urigan finished with us today and gave us a HUGE hug. What a blessing!!

We did it!!!

Did you feel like you were the "champions of the world"? I didn't sleep very well because I kept looking at the clock to imagine where you were. I haven't had any dreams lately where Mel was lost, but last night I dreamed you guys wore tight Wranglers to church. Sometimes I wonder what my dreams say about my mental health. You guys rest and relax, pamper yourselves a little, and savor the moment.
By the way, no matter what you think Urigan is probably not your soul mate, so don't even think about staying over there with him.

YAY!!!! It was so good to hear your triumphant voice today and to know that you completed a goal you have had for so long. This will be an adventure and experience not soon forgotten. Enjoy the rest of your time in Europe, and I can't wait to see you on Monday! Oh, and please be wearing your Wranglers when I pick you up. Love ya!

WOW!!!!!!I knew you could do it. Have a great time celebrating. Eat all the yummy food you can the next couple of days - you guys deserve it. We will be celebrating here too. As Debbie told you I took my own leap of faith this week and resigned my position at THS. Well I got a job at Guthrie High School. I know that it was my friends that kept me in their prayers that helped me to get this job. I will miss all of you guys but I will be keeping in touch so you guys aren't off the hook! Can't wait to see you guys.

Hey, I'm just wondering what you're doing at the moment.
My big events of the day are cleaning my curling iron and helping Andrew pack for camp.

We're also gearing up for the kick off of Monk and Psych tonight. Yippee!

I've been reading Jim's poetry book. He has one called "Mayberry Moments" that I thought might be appropriate for your reentry into American life.

Mayberry Moments

This weekend in Ponca City
I'm reminded of the Andy Griffith Show,
when the busy stranger came to town
and couldn't wait to get the heck out.

Two worlds colliding, city life
and a smsll town's counter offer.
Something's gotta give.
We can't have it both ways.

On TV, the stranger slowly
came around, adjusted to Mayberry's
lumbering pace, found
that fleeting peace we all need.

As I sit inside The Blue Moon,
eating barbeque, listening to
the talk of the town, I'm able to relax a bit and breathe.

Like the stranger, I cannot stay.
The mortgage is due and people
I love back there need me.
But on the drive home, I'm whistling. Jim Chastain, Antidotes and Home Remedies, 2008

I'm praying for the best of both worlds for you two, selfishly for me too - for whistling a lot in the midst of life (whistle while you work - where have I heard that before?). I guess it boils down to being in this world but not of it.

Mel, I met a lady last night at Bible study who has a son...

Well, I'm eagerly awaiting your return. God speed!
